Star
Brakhage
Star Brakhage is a soundtrack I made as a redesign for a clip from the film Dog Star Man made by Stan Brakhage. For this project I chose a clip and created an entirely new soundtrack for it without listening to the original sound.
I was inspired by my love of the sea and how water manipulates sound. The goal is to imagine a mixture of the two vastly unexplored places, the ocean and space. I love the sound of whales and how their calls echo through the water, so I included those in my soundtrack.
Astrid Abduction
This project was my final project for my Sound For Film class, the first sound design class I ever took. The aim of this project was to show proficiency in ProTools by taking sound effects from the SCAD sound library and recreating the backgrounds, sound effects, and dialogue used in the clip I chose.
This project won first place in the SCAD Audio Engineering Society's yearly competition in the Sound for Film category.
Absurdist Sandman
This "Mini-Assignment", as my professor called it, was a practice in creativity. The goal was to redo the soundtrack of this short clip with non-realistic sound effects. For example, what you see at the end of this clip is a girl flipping over in a kayak, but what you hear is a car crash.
I was the sole sound designer on this project.
This assignment was both fun and challenging. It was one of my favorite works from my Sound Editing class.
Sherlock Holmes Vampire Slayer
This film is a love letter to the Sherlock films, with a supernatural twist!
As a Sound Supervisor I take on the responsibilities of a supervisor. I put together a team, delegate tasks, and create and communicate the schedule all team members must adhere to. I also take on the role of the lead creative on the sound team, which gives me the opportunity to impart my own creative vision on the film.
Scissors and Dragons
Scissors and Dragons is a radio play I wrote and recorded for my Foley class. I wrote the script, mixed the Foley, did the Foley for the hair cutting and footsteps, and edited the sound effects and Foley. This project is one of the favorites I've done in my time at SCAD. It was fun to write, record, and edit.
I submitted this project to a recording competition run by SCAD's branch of the Audio Engineering Society and won second place in the Traditional Recording division.
About
Hello! My name is Archer MacCracken. I am a Fourth year Sound Design major at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
During my time at the SCAD I have focused on honing my skills as a Special Effects Editor. I have been taught the ins and outs of ProTools, and work with the software every day, whether it be for editing, recording, or mixing.
Outside of class, I have taken on multiple film projects as a Sound Supervisor. I love the job of sound supervision because I am the driving creative force behind the soundtrack of the film I am working on. I get to work closely with the directors in order to bring their visions to life as well as offer suggestions on how the sound design can reinforce the story.
